1918, the Finnish civil war. Red socialists and White bourgeoisie. Tears of April is a movie about love in the midst of chaos.
Prisoner of the Whites, Red guard troop leader Miina Malin, manages to escape, only to be recaptured by Red soldier Aaro Harjula. Going against the general consensus, he does not wish for her senseless murder but for her to have a fair trial. The meeting of Aaro and Miina binds two strong human stories together and sparks an edgy love theme in the midst of the horrors of the civil war.
Tears of April won actor Eero Aho the prestigious award for “Best Actor” at the Marrakech International Film Festival 2009 and “Best cinematography” at the Finnish Film Awards 2009.
